Actually, the date for sneaking into the Great Gorge Playboy Club in McAfee could have been as early as 1973, as we had cars and were driving by our junior and senior years in high school. We would park in a nearby neighborhood, then sprint across the golf course at night, and sneak into the Playboy Club through some side door. Tier remembers that some of us once had mud spots on the back of our suits after running across a soggy golf course, which must have flung up from the heels of our muddy shoes.

Hugh Hefner built and designed the Playboy Club in the late 1960s as a casino based on a vague promise from legislators that legalized gambling was coming to New Jersey. It was a sleek, virtually all-black exterior with very few windows in high traffic areas and permanent twilight inside. The early 1970s saw a regular parade of stars, such as Sammy Davis Jr., Johnny Cash, The Monkees, Frankie Valli, and Don Rickles. Unfortunately for the Playboy Club, the gambling did come to NJ, but only to Atlantic City.

So the Playboy Club was eventually sold in 1988 and it became the Seasons Resort and Conference Center. Ten years later it was sold again and became the Legends Resort Country Club, which it is today. Read more about it here.

I'm watching something on the original Playboy Club in Vernon NJ. All I remember is driving up there, then parking, and then running across a golf course, and then sneaking into the Club via some door. I don't remember what we did once inside, maybe get some drinks, then leave. Do you remember anything else?

I recall all of us "dressed to the hilt" parking along a golf course. Under the cover of the brightest full moon and a northwestern new jersey hills starry night, we ran across the soggy wet golf course and snuck into the Playboy Club. Once inside, we divided up into smaller groups because one big wolf pack might give us away. As we were walking along inside the Playboy Club I was in the second group that was walking behind the first group. I noticed some spots on the backs of the pants and suits of the guys in front of us. Closing in to get a better look there were indeed tiny spots of mud decorating everyone's suits. It was determined that while running across wet golf course, we kicked up the mud spots that polka-doted the backside of our Sunday best.

I drove once. What a great and funny time that was. I can’t believe we got away with it.

See a video about the Playboy Club.

On a side note as to what year the Crew made their three trips to the Playboy Club, Jacko points out that we had to at least be 18. But this is irrelevant since we sneaked in anyway. Furthermore, even when the drinking age was 21 (it was lowered to 18 in 1973), we were buying beer with altered driving permits that we got at 16. Nowadays, though, illegal Mexicans don't appear to be as smart. They don't know that when making a fake ID, just have yourself in the photo, no matter how much you may love the girl, as pictured below (photo supplied by Tier).
